Understanding Search Engine Optimization

Posted by Admin | Search Engine Optimization | Jul 14, 2019

Back in the Day: Most of us would just advertise in the newspaper or yellow book and we would just pay more than our competition if we wanted some leads. Right? Who the heck would blame us though? These newspapers have been around since the 1600s and the yellow pages have been around since 1886 or something like that.  This "Internet Search", "Search Crawler", "Bot" thingy all presented itself in a span of just 20 years or so.

The Search Engine Takeover: It all started with the "Crawlers" - WebCrawler specifically.  Sites were no longer archived manually.  The text indexing by crawler, search engine revolution was born.  Approaching the late 90's, we saw the birth of Google, Yahoo, and MSN (now Bing) presenting "Local Results", "Search Engine Algorithms", and "Ads". Their competition with one another fueled not only super cool search results but more engaging and exciting content via algorithms and strategic ad placement. Gradually, consumers switched from thumbing through their local phone books to using the internet via computers, tablets and cell phones to search locally or nationally for products and services.  "Hey Google, Find Search Engine Optimization Companies Near Me".

SEO 101: Search Engine Optimization is not just some sort of moderate website add-on. It's not just adjusting a page title and stuffing a website with meta tags either. We still see people bombarding their website with keywords thinking they are going to be the next Amazon or Ebay for the products or services they offer locally. We completely understand this process of thought however as this is what some people have been told.  Here's a fact: Google doesn't promote most of the meta tags a website uses. Especially the meta "keywords" tag.  Boom!  With this in mind, we still use several meta tags and also the keyword tag as best practice, but we want you to understand that Google only recommends and recognizes specific meta tags when considering your website for indexing.  Your website's content is king.  Your images, content structure, text, links and descriptions are the key to success.  If laid out properly and professionally, it can pay dividends when it comes to search engine results.

Organic SEO: Organic search results are the natural or organic search results presented based on a specific search term or search query.  95% of search engine users do not go beyond the first page of search results regardless of device and 65% of most website traffic comes via Organic Search Results.  So this means if your website is on the 1st page of a major search engine for a specific search term you are 95% more likely to get a customer than those who aren't and 6 out of 10 people will become your customer because they found you "Organically" via the search engine they utilized.  This is huge and this is exactly why Search Engine Optimization is so important.  There's a reason those who are at the front of the line typically stay there.
